"Rationalist" Writing Desk

Maple Wood, Lucite

From an Unknown Cabinetmaker, Milan, Italy, Late 1940s

It consists of a hard yellow maple construction contrasting to the black lacquer, suspensions and drawers handles in Lucite and in between the drawers and top desk, giving an impression of floating.

Under influence of the Italian Rationalism that stabilised a nuance of relation with the technical, typological and aesthetic experimentations of the European avant-garde on the one side, and the new post-war "Atomic-Age" tendencies on the other.

In very good vintage condition, showing minor signs of wear.

Provenance from a scriptwriter, Los Angeles, California. Purchased by the previous owner in an antique store in Milan in the 1990s.
