This French sideboard is a high-end investment piece from French design history, known for:

  • Exotic Premium Woods: Rare woods like Macassar ebony, walnut, oak, and sycamore are used.
  • Geometric & Curved Silhouettes: A mix of sharp geometric lines and soft, curved sides (e.g., U-shaped or radiused).
  • Architectural Bases: Instead of simple legs, it features massive plinths or sculpted feet for a grand look.
  • Luxurious Interior: Drawers are lined with oak, mahogany, or velvet, and use dovetail joints for durability.
  • Key-Only Entry: No handles—keys act as temporary pulls, preserving the clean, uninterrupted wood grain.
  • Art Deco Icon: A central ring on the middle door symbolizes machine-age symmetry and balances the design.
  • Subtle Walnut Grain: A quiet, matching grain ensures the 280 cm width doesn’t look chaotic, highlighting the curved sides and structural details.
  • Bespoke for Grand Spaces: A 280 cm piece is custom-made for large architectural settings, requiring expensive, matched timber to maintain grain continuity.

This grand buffet sideboard is in very good original condition, few small reparations on the Macassar inlays was done by the precedent owner. It shows minor signs of wear.
