Postmodernism in design emerged in the late 20th century (1970s-1990s) as a reaction to the principles of modernism. The Italian postmodern design is renowned for its boldness, playfulness, and use of historical references combined with new materials and forms.
The "Black" furniture cult emerged in the middle 1970s, shifting from the 60s brightness, vibrant colours and psychedelic patterns. The 1970s saw a shift toward more grounded, sophisticated, and sometimes dramatic aesthetics.
