Lounge Chairs Model "Vela Bassa"

Steel chrome, Hard Plastic, Wood, Foam, Pads, Chenille

Manufactured by Saporiti Italia, Italy, 1970-1973

It consists of a Wooden frame hidden beneath upholstery, Chrome-plated metal legs at base for stability and a sleek aesthetic. The bottom is covered with a hard plastic printed "Saporiti Vela Bassa" in large relief. 

Construction: Padded seating and backrests for comfort, sculpted, ergonomic design with a wing-like backrest, upholstered with a burnt-orange chenille.

The chairs have been professionally high temperature steam cleaned and is in very good condition overall. The original upholstery shows signs of wear and a slight patina.

With custom stamps and historical significance:

Provenance from the family Balkhausen, Cologne, Germany. The pair is stamped labelled Balkhausen / Köll, and series numbered at bottom.

Some Vela Bassa pieces were made exclusively for specific customers or as custom commissions. During the 1970s, many high-end Italian furniture manufacturers, including Saporiti Italia, occasionally produced limited or custom editions for private clients, hotels, or corporate projects. These pieces might feature unique upholstery, dimensions, or finishes tailored or colour to the customer’s preferences.
