Erich Dickmann Bauhaus Chair and a rare ottoman for Galenka Tyskland, Germany, 1933

This Chair and this very rare ottoman designed by Erich Dieckmann in bennchwood for Galenka Tyskland, in 1933. Dieckmann was one of the most important furniture designers at the Bauhaus, developing type ranges for seat and experimentalfurniture.

Like Marcel Breuer, Erich Dieckmann experimented with steel tubing but is primarily known for his standardized wooden furniture. Dieckmann’s designs for seat furniture are stringently geometric, with frames based on right angles and constructed of almost pieces of wood that were either almost square in cross section or flat; another feature typical of Dieckmann’s work is linking armrests and chair legs in a runner construction.
By using quality hardwoods such as beech, cherry, oak, and ash as well as cane matting, Dieckmann loosened up the stringent geometry of his designs; on the other hand, however, standardization and normed proportions were to keep the prices of these mass-produced pieces of furniture as low as possible for a growing working class. Today these pieces are rare, collectable and became museum pieces for it historical value.

Set of six Eames La Fonda Chairs, 1961, First Herman Miller Edition

Six Eames La Fonda Chairs with original woll orange uphostery and white lacquered cast.

The uhostery in an excellent condition. legs showing slight traces of use.

All six are original Herman Miller first edition from 1961.

This side chair is one of two new fiberglass chairs Charles and Ray Eames designed in 1961, inspired by a request from Alexander Girard, who needed seating for his new Manhattan restaurant, La Fonda Del Sol. Some collectors call these “La Fonda” chairs, after the restaurant where they were first installed.

Herman Miller offered this model and the Arm Chair to all of their customers for more than 12 years.

Because Girard wanted chairs with seat backs no higher than dining table tops, Charles and Ray Eames designed these with a lower back than their original molded fiberglass chairs. Along with the new shells, Charles and Ray devised a new contract base, which combined all of the functions of a contract base in two symmetrical forms that could be joined together. The four vertical elements featured lightweight construction while still providing strength and stability to the solid cast.

Selman Selmanagic Armchair Type 53693 for VEB Deutsch Werkstaetten Hellerau, GDR, 1957

Selman Selmanagic armchair type 53693 in 1957. It has a thin laminated wooden frame and a spring core aparently new upholstery. The armchair was produced by the German manufacturer Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau. It is in a very good vintage condition.

H: 73cm x D: 7àcm x W: 60cm

This chair is an rare example of modernist design produced in the German Democratic Republic before the debates of the early 1950s about 'formalism - the intention was a representational 'socialist style' rather than a focus on formal aspects of design. The chair represents the revival and continuation of the practices of the Bauhaus -the leading school of Modernist design - in East Germany after the Second World War, and indeed was designed by a former Bauhaus student, Selman Selmanagic. The chair was made at the Deutsche Werkstätten in Hellerau (near Dresden), one of the most important furniture-making workshops in 20th-century Germany. It is part of Selmanagic's interior design for the SED Parteihochschule 'Karl Marx' (training academy of the East German communist party) in Kleinmachnow near Berlin, built in 1947-9. As the debates concerning an appropriate 'socialist style' escalated in the late 1940s, the Deutsche Werkstätten came under attack for their adherence to a so-called 'formalist' Bauhaus design approach. Walter Ulbricht, the General Secretary of the SED condemned formalist design, later stating that he thought Selmanagic's furniture inappropriate for this particular building.

Jean-Pierre Laporte Armchair Prototype, France, 1965

Probably an unique prototype of an armchair by Jean-Pierre Laporte in post-formed teak-plywood and heater orange and brown fabric made by Joyeux, realized to the demand of «L'École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs» and presented at the 44th 'Salon des Artistes Décorateurs',  1965

Coming from Boulle School and the National School of Decorative Arts, like many other people present in the catalog, Jean-Pierre Laporte is one of the great creators of the 20th century. Strongly inspired by the work of Pierre Paulin, Jean-Pierre
Laporte is a true magician of forms, with which he plays to create furniture of a great modernity for his time, where the body is always at the center of the creative process.
The Italian creation was the great reference in terms of Design for all this generation, and the events organized in the country made dream the young French creation; but France also boasted itself also of a leading event, that of the show organized by the SAD. It offered the opportunity for each creator to present to the general public innovative models, always in preview, and to be recognized by his peers. Often unique models, numbers of creations present in the catalog from these exhibitions and are often the real prototypes that were presented on the stands of salons, like the pieces of Jean-Pierre Laporte.
Enthusiastic and always a pencil in hand, he created relentlessly, only for ten years, objects with sensual curves and exhibited for the SAD since 1965, with a prototype armchair, presented in the catalog. Then, after the curved wood, he explored the possibilities offered by molded polyester fiber, to offer shapes far ahead of his time.

An opulent outdoor essential, today became a highly collectable art piece. This Peter Ghyczy Icon for Reuter’s Form + Life Collection Germany in 1969 is much sought after. Hence the abundance of poorly quality plastic imitated versions.
